Cement Concrete & Aggregates Australia (CCAA)commends the Victorian Government’s approval of the first new sand quarry close to Melbourne in 20 years and appreciates the efforts of the Government’s innovative Resources Victoria Approvals Coordination (RVAC) unit.

CCAA members produce the majority of Australia’s cement, concrete, and aggregates, which are crucial to Australia’s building and construction sectors. These materials support the development of our nation’s transport, energy, water, housing, defence, and social infrastructure.
“Since its inception last year through collaboration between CCAA and the Victorian government, the RVAC has expedited approvals for new quarries in close proximity to areas of high demand”, said CCAA CEO Michael Kilgariff.
“The support for quarry materials supply is beginning to yield meaningful results with this milestone approval, enhancing the availability of sand, rock, and gravel, crucial for Victoria’s new housing, infrastructure, and renewable energy projects.
“Releasing supply of critical sand and hard rock close to market is a pathway to reducing the cost pressures on Victoria’s housing and infrastructure commitments, and the Victoria Government’s establishment of the RVAC has started to deliver tangible results.
“CCAA was pleased to see the result of our advocacy work rewarded in today’s announcement and appreciates the sustained work of the new Resources Victoria team and the approvals coordination function championed by CCAA in the last term of government.
“Accelerating the approval of market-ready sand and hard rock and streamlining approvals for new quarries is essential to meet Victoria’s growing infrastructure and housing needs.
