Foundations for Australia’s Future

The Industry Behind Australia’s Built Environment

Australia has ambitious plans for the future, more homes, better transport infrastructure, new hospitals and schools, stronger regional communities and the infrastructure required for the energy transition.

All of it needs to be built.

Building it requires secure, reliable and sustainable access to the materials at the foundation of Australia’s built environment: cement, concrete and aggregates.

Foundations for Australia’s Future is a national CCAA campaign highlighting the essential role these materials play in our economy, our communities and our future prosperity.

As Australia’s construction demands grow, ensuring the materials and supply chains needed to turn investment into reality will be critical.

Australia’s ambitions need strong foundations.

Building the Nation’s Homes, Infrastructure and Communities

The cement, concrete and aggregates industry sits at the beginning of Australia’s construction supply chain.

Independent analysis by Oxford Economics Australia demonstrates both the scale of the industry itself and the much broader economic activity it helps make possible.

These numbers tell an important story.

The industry’s contribution extends from quarries and concrete plants to transport operators, equipment suppliers, professional services and businesses across the wider economy.

But its importance extends further still.

Cement, concrete and aggregates provide the physical foundations for the homes Australians live in, the roads and railways that connect our communities, the hospitals and schools we depend on and the energy infrastructure that will power our future.

Australia’s Ambitions Must Be Built on Strong Foundations

Australia’s national conversation about housing, infrastructure and the energy transition often focuses on investment, planning and delivery.

But there is another fundamental question: where will the materials needed to build it all come from?

In the first Foundations Insights, CCAA Chief Executive Officer Michael Kilgariff examines why secure access to cement, concrete and aggregates must be part of the conversation from the beginning and why Australia’s ability to build ultimately depends on the strength of the supply chains behind it.

FOUNDATIONS LAUNCH

Launching Foundations for Australia’s Future

CCAA has launched Foundations for Australia’s Future to build greater understanding of the connection between Australia’s ambitions and the materials needed to deliver them.

Underpinned by independent economic analysis from Oxford Economics Australia, the campaign will highlight the contribution of cement, concrete and aggregates while examining the issues that will shape Australia’s capacity to meet future construction demand.

Over the coming year, the campaign will explore housing and infrastructure, resource security, planning and approvals, freight and logistics, productivity, innovation, workforce capability and decarbonisation.

The objective is simple: to ensure the materials required to build Australia’s future are part of the national conversation about how that future will be delivered.
