Cement Concrete & Aggregates Australia (CCAA) has expressed support for the NSW State Budget, while reiterating calls for the development of a Heavy Construction Materials Plan for NSW to support sustainable supply of the essential materials needed to meet the housing & infrastructure demand.
CCAA is the peak body for the heavy construction materials industry in Australia. CCAA members produce the majority of Australia’s cement, concrete, and aggregates, which are crucial to Australia’s building and construction sectors. These materials support the development of our nation’s transport, energy, water, housing, defence, and social infrastructure.
“CCAA welcomes the focus on long term housing and infrastructure investment that NSW needs to thrive, and looks forward to continuing our collaboration with the Government on our published NSW Policy Priorities to ensure the sustainable supply of construction materials”, said CCAA CEO Michael Kilgariff.
“By 2036, the Greater Sydney Region will need at least 500 million tonnes of finished quarry products. To ensure efficient supply and delivery, these materials must be sourced from locations close to their final destinations, supporting the region’s essential construction needs.
“CCAA urges the NSW Government to promptly develop an integrated Heavy Construction Materials Plan, supporting our published NSW Policy Priorities. Clear strategies for cement, aggregates, sand, and concrete are essential to ensure we can supply the construction materials needed for renewable energy projects, infrastructure, and affordable housing.
“This plan is critical in delivering an adequate supply of essential materials to the locations where they are needed.
CCAA is pleased to see the focus on long term housing supply including $5.1bn to build 8,400 public housing homes across the state, and the record $119 bn forward estimate infrastructure pipeline that will underpin the NSW economy, including:
• The $13.4 billion to the delivery of Australia’s biggest transport project, Sydney Metro West, which will support more housing and double the rail capacity between Parramatta and Sydney CBD.
• The $5.5 billion allocated to the Sydney Metro-Western Sydney Airport project delivering six new stations to service the future Western Sydney International Airport and the Aerotropolis.
• The $2.1 billion is being provisioned for Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 construction.
• The $44.5 billion for regional transport and roads, as part of various NSW and Australian Government funded projects which include $1.4 billion for the M1 to Raymond Terrace extension and Hexham Straight widening projects; $1.1 billion to progress Princes Highway projects including construction of the Milton Ulladulla bypass, Jervis Bay Road intersection upgrade and Jervis Bay Road to Hawken Road upgrade; and $926 million for construction of the Coffs Harbour Bypass.
